Le chalet de Ralph Erskine fut un lieu d’expérimentation important pour cet architecte britannique / suédois, célèbre pour sa contribution au design nordique. L’espace et les ouvertures sont en harmonie avec les conditions de lumière et du climat du Grand Nord. Le chalet s’ouvre au sud sur une terrasse où un microclimat est créé par la protection du vent, l’apport solaire et un foyer extérieur. Le côté nord du bâtiment est plus épais, intégrant un mini-vestibule et des espaces de rangement intérieur et extérieur.  

 

Ralph Erskine's cabin was an important site of experimentation for this British/Swedish architect, famous for his contributions to northern design. Space and openings are harmonised with light and climate conditions of the far North. The cabin opens onto a south facing terrace where a warm microclimate is created by combination of wind protection, solar gain and a special outdoor fireplace. The north facing side of the house is made extra thick, integrating a mini vestibule and inside and outside storage.
