Ce bâtiment fait partie de la proposition pour un système alimentaire sur l’île de Baffin (Arctic Food Network) réfléchi autour des voies de transport utilisées par les communautés durant l’hiver. Il permet de conserver et de partager la nourriture traditionnelle entre communautés. Le congélateur s’inspire des caves souterraines de stockage d’aliments présentes dans plusieurs communautés nordiques où l’on utilise le pergélisol présent sur place comme congélateur naturel.

 

This building is part of a proposal for food networks on Baffin Island (Arctic Food Network) concentrated in and around transportation routes used by communities during the winter. The underground building is embedded in permafrost and works as a shared freezer for traditional “country food”. The freezer is inspired by underground food storage cellars in several northern communities where permafrost is used as a natural refrigerant.
